Barqan, established in June 1981 by secular Israelis from the Beitar and Herut movements, is situated in the northern West Bank, approximately 8 kilometers west of Salfit. The industrial park hosts around 120 businesses and factories, employing approximately 5,000 workers, with 90% being Palestinian Arabs. The name "Barkan" is derived from the Hebrew term for the Syrian thistle. Barqan is home to approximately 2,005 residents, comprising about 1,002 males and 1,003 females. The community is predominantly Jewish, with 1,862 Jewish residents, alongside a small number of Arabs and individuals from other ethnic groups. The age distribution includes 585 individuals aged 0-14 years, 1,237 between 15-64 years, and 184 aged 65 and above. New immigrants, or olim, are drawn to Barqan for several reasons.
